In Nandyal, an 8-year-old girl playing in a park was taken away by three minor boys aged 14 to 16, who then raped her and, fearing she might reveal the incident at home, threw her into the Nandikotkur lift irrigation scheme. When the girl went missing, her parents approached the police. After deploying the dog squad and conducting extensive searches, the police eventually found that the three minor boys had raped Vasanti, the 8-year-old, and thrown her into the water.

Responding to this incident, the Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan said that seeing children commit such acts disturbed him greatly. He mentioned that values should be taught in school, and school managements should be strict and specifically teach certain lessons. He emphasized that, although the crime is serious, the court’s sentencing is different because they are minors. However, he noted that such incidents should not happen and that school is the best place to teach good values.

Referring to Pawan Kalyan’s video statement, Rashmi Gautam acknowledged the complexity of the situation and argued against giving leniency simply because the offenders are minors. She pointed out that the crime involved rape and that granting leniency in such crimes could lead to an increase in criminal activities.
