Sidharth Malhotra plays the lead role “Param Sachdev” the son of business magnate Parmit Sachdev (Sanjay Kapoor) who keeps investing in new startup companies that lands him in huge loses with no success. As a final challenge to his father, Param opens up to the idea of Shekhar (Abhishek Banerjee) who builds a new dating app and seeks for the investment to launch it. Param, doesn’t believe in dating apps though, creates a profile just to test it. Shekhar helps him in finding his best soul mate for lifetime. To his surprise, he gets a 100% match with Damodaran Sundari Pillai (Janhvi Kapoor), a beautiful woman from Kerala who runs a homestay. Curious, Param travels to meet her setting off a journey that could change his views on love and technology.
Param Sundari is a sweetly sequenced 90’s-style romantic love story reimagined for Gen Z. Think of it as a nostalgic rollercoaster through the golden age of Bollywood packed with heartfelt emotions, timeless romance, and a heavy dose of retro charm. The film unfolds like a love letter to classic 90’s cinema, blending together iconic movie scenes and aesthetics, all led by the dazzlingly gorgeous Sundari and the six-pack sporting Param, whose on-screen chemistry strikes all the right chords.
If you’ve grown up on the magic of Shah Rukh Khan’s charm and A.R. Rahman’s melodies, this film might feel like a comforting throwback. Drawing inspiration from evergreen hits like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Chennai Express, and 1942: A Love Story, Param Sundari delivers that same cinematic warmth just with a fresh Gen Z spin.
Jahnavi Kapoor shines throughout and, along with the melodious songs, stands out as one of the few strong points in the film. Had more effort been invested in developing a stronger, more original plot, Param Sundari might have risen above being just another rehash of old-school Bollywood romance. Instead, it ends up feeling predictable and overly reliant on borrowed emotions and visuals.
In short, it’s a film with potential that gets lost in its own tribute to the past visually appealing, musically pleasant, but ultimately lacking the fresh spark needed to leave a lasting impression.
Watch it for Janhvi Kapoor and the music, not for the story.
